The young man with a jacket
I made that drawing from a photo during my internship at Young & Rubicam. It was an exercise given by the storyboard artist working full time at the agency, who was a little bit like my advisor: Maxime Carnevalé.
I had to reproduce a photo from a magazine with the Pantone Tria markers and do it the more realistic way possible, playing with the flat surfaces, transparencies, overlaying of the markers. I think the result was pretty successful. By its context of production I decided to put it here in Advertising, even if the final aspect is closer to illustration.

J’ai réalisé ce dessin d’après photo en stage chez Young & Rubicam. C’était un exercice imposé par le roughman (storyboardeur) intégré à l’agence et qui était un peu mon responsable de stage : Maxime Carnevalé.
Je devais reproduire une photo d’un magazine avec des marqueurs Pantone et le faire le plus réaliste possible en jouant avec les aplats, les transparences et superpositions des feutres. Je trouve que le résultat était réussi. Par son contexte de réalisation je le colle ici, en rough de pub, même si l’aspect final est plus proche de l’illustration.
Layout sketches (rough de publicité)
In 2002, during my internships in advertising agencies (Young & Rubicam and CLM BBDO) I had the opportunity to do what they call (in France) “roughs” (layout sketches), that means preparation drawings for ads in magazines or posters. I got to practice with the Pantone markers. The first three advertisings are for potato chips Croky. They are a little politically incorrect, but were made for the portfolio of one of the creative employees of the agency and were not meant to become a real poster.

En 2002, lors de mes stages en agence de pub (Young & Rubicam et CLM BBDO) j’ai eu l’occasion de faire ce qu’il appellent des rough, c’est à dire des dessins préparatoires pour affiches publicitaires. De quoi pratiquer en terme de marqueurs Pantone. Les trois pubs pour les chips Croky sont un peu politiquement incorrectes, elles ont été réalisées pour le book d’un des créatifs de l’agence CLM-BBDO et n’avait pas pour objectif de devenir une vraie affiche.
“Violette et Rose”
Those illustrations were inspired by texts by Carol Betty and Laurent Adicéam-Dixit. Written at the beginning as scripts of short films, the eventuality of publishing them inspired the authors the idea of illustrating them. The idea follows its path…
Technique : pen tablet and Corel Painter.
The subject? Well, the drawings will probably speak for themselves. But maybe you need to know that Violette and Rose were the names of the two main characters. It was a lot of fun to draw that.

Ces illustrations ont été inspirées de textes écrits par Carol Betty et Laurent Adicéam-Dixit. Écrits au départ en tant que scénarios de courts sketchs, l’éventualité de les publier sur papier a inspiré aux auteurs l’idée de les faire illustrer. l’idée suit son cours…

Pour le sujet, je crois que les dessins parlent d’eux mêmes. Mais peut-être qu’il est utile de savoir que Violette et Rose sont les prénoms des deux personages principaux. C’était très sympa de travailler sur ce projet.
Le fil à huîtres
That one was a funny project. The industrialists who bought the patent of the wire to open oysters in one go, needed to illustrate their concept in order to sell their oysters in the internet. They called me to make some small storyboards and an animation (click on the last image to see it moving). Petit projet rigolo que celui-là. Les industriels qui ont acheté le brevet du fil à ouvrir les huîtres en un coup de main avaient besoin d’illustrer leur concept afin de le vendre sur un site internet. Ils ont fait appel à moi pour la réalisation de petits storyboards et une animation (cliquez sur le dernier dessin pour le voir s’animer). Jardin
When you know the basics of Photoshop and have some creative skills, you can sometimes get original commissions. Here is the map of the garden of a friend, with a note of all the trees and plants. A tool for the collectors of different species, this kind of map is actually really decorative and instructive for neophytes. The only problem: it should be actualized regularly, because a garden is still and all living.

Lorsque l’on sait bricoler sur Photoshop et qu’on a quelques talents créatifs, on reçoit parfois des commandes originales. Voici le plan du jardin d’un ami, avec un relevé de tous les arbres qui y ont été plantés. Outil pour les collectionneurs d’essences différentes, ce type de plan s’avère être très décoratif et instructif pour les néophytes. Seul inconvénient : il faudrait le mettre à jour régulièrement, car un jardin c’est quand même vivant.
Storyboard for Architects
Here are some drawings done after maps and sections of a project: a cultural centre in the city of Provins (France). This work has been node by request of the Architecture Agency. The goal was to give life to a building not existing yet, in order to present the project to the local authorities.

Voici quelques dessins réalisés d’après des plans et des coupes d’un projet : un centre culturel à Provins. Ce travail a été réalisé à la demande de l’agence d’architecture.
